To many people even the word “work” sounds unpleasant ,not necessarily because they are lazy. The same man,who dislikes his job in the factory or even in the office ,may work hard at the weekend ,painting the house or digging the garden.

What is the reason ,then? In most cases ,it is because these people simply do not enjoy the Job they are doing .It does not give them any real satisfaction. It may be quite easy, like making up wooden boxes, but it is very boring. Very often they are doing a job which is just a small part of a much larger one ,such as attaching a door handle to a car. But the part they play in actually making the car is so small that they can never say: I have made something !

Yet in modern society somebody has to do ordinary jobs such as cleaning streets because this is the way society is organized ,No matter how ordinary a job is, it plays a part in society and therefore deserves our due respect. Society cannot function a single day without the “dull and boring” jobs.

  (1) 描述清潔工工作的艱辛;

It is reported that thirty volunteers to be sent to the Mars who are at least 18 years old will be chosen from all the globe by the year of 2015. The volunteers must make a full preparation that there is almost no chance to return to the earth once they are immigrated to the Mars. What’s more, it is greatly important for them to try to keep a good relationship with other members. Experts strongly warned that the living conditions on the Mars are very hard, for not only the extremely cold climate would they meet with, but also loneliness and fear. On the contrary , the volunteers insist that they have got tired of the life on the earth, so greatly being eager to experience the unknown, mysterious life on the Mars; meanwhile, if the would be succeeded , they would get the honor to be heroes of human beings.

In the passage, the author mainly stressed the importance of small and ordinary work, such as cleaning the street because of their essentiality重要性;本質(zhì);真髓;根本性for the organization of the society ,and thinks those doing such jobs should be respected greatly.

There is no doubt that what a cleaner does is more harder compared with any other jobs in the society. On one hand, they must get up in the early morning every day to clean the street while we are sill in the sweet sleeping dreams. On the other hand, they also suffer from less respect and lower pay, working all day on the street no matter it is sun shines strongly or snow, wind heavily.

Nobody could imagine what an bad environment we would live in if there were no cleaners in the city. Wherever we go, there is rubbish. Maybe we would soon be drowned in the mountain of rubbish. Even worse, if there were no change about that, diseases would spread at a very quick speed. Is there anything that can be worse than this!

From the above, I can draw the conclusion safely that even the smallest and the most ordinary job, such as cleaning the street is also the necessary part to keep the society going smoothly. Consequently, those who do those most insignificant微不足道的jobs should get respected as much as those being engineers or doctors.

My husband received a letter a month ago a young woman who had been his student when she was in middle school. She was writing because she wanted to thank for having a great influence in her life.

In the letter she wrote, “You were the teacher who helped me discover my talent for math. Before you came to teach us, I had been terribly poor at math, and had never thought that I would be interested in it. To my surprise, you magically showed me the beauty of math. I guess that was the turning point of my attitude towards it. Gradually my interest in it began to grow. Thanks to your encouragement, I made continuous progress in math, and finally made up my mind to study it in the university. Today I am working as an accountant at Valley Medical Center in California. You played an important part. Thank you!”

What a wonderful gift to a retired teacher! My husband has received many letters from students over the years. This one was special, for it arrived at this time in his life when he is in very poor health.

A retired teacher received many letters from his former students, one of which was read as not only a thank-you note for his inspirational teaching in his mathematical class, but a warm comfort for his poor physical condition.

Reading the passage, I’m touched and link my memory to the most supportive mentor of my own -- Mr. Xu, an experienced Chinese teacher, was in charge of my class in Senior Three. As the senior year is characterized by running a tight schedule on everyday basis, we students were loaded with heavy coursework, frequent quiz and exams, and pressured by our parents’ high expectations. Increasingly, I felt a need to consult with Mr. Xu on reducing the amount of our workload so that we could be given more time to digest what we had learned over the past couple years.

Unlike some of the stern supervisors, Mr. Xu was open-minded and patient enough to allow me to raise the above argument. “Besides the study efficiency,” he added with a friendly simile, “I also concern for your morale and well-being. So don’t you worry; I’ll talk to other teachers and see what we can do to help the class decompress.” Thanks to his approval and consistent support, we systematically adjusted our pacing and stayed upbeat in preparation for the college entrance examination.

A teacher can be influential in either positive or negative ways. In my observation, a good teacher can bring out the best of his students while a bad teacher may, regrettably, affect the young mind in most discouraging manners.

As we all know, smoking does great harm to human beings. More and more people have come to realize how serious this problem is. But they are never bored with it. Some people think it is a kind of fashion, some think it is of great fun and others think that smoking can refresh themselves.

In order to keep healthy, we should get rid of the bad habit of smoking. Please stop smoking at once.

Is Watching TV a Good Thing

Television has changed people's life much since it was invented. Now it has become an important part of modem life.

People enjoy themselves after hard work by Watching TV. They can see some plays, some stories, some sports matches without going out of home, and without spending much money in buying tickets. TV programmes make people's life more interesting.

People learn much from TV. Students can study by watching some educational programmes. People can see news, weather reports; programmes about science and computers. People all over the world can learn from each other and get knowledge when they are watching TV.

But not all the progranunes are ,good enough. Today, there are too many programmes about sexy and crime. Some young people become bad because they learn from the bad people in those programmes. And watching TV usually takes too much time. It's not good for people's work and study. It's not good foi' their eyes, either.

People all over the world are watching TV. Is watching TV a good thing or a bad one? I think it depends on people themselves.

If one can choose good programmes and he doesn't spend too much time on TV, it can be a good thing for him.

  Use of Free Time

With the working hours becoming shorter and shorter and holidays becoming longer and longer, how to spend the leisure time has become a hot topic.

The use of free time often discloses much about one's tastes, values, interests and personality. Some may take to the humanities: literature, magic, art, and they might be interested in movies and television. Others participate in sports, politics, voluntary work or hobbies at home. Still others like parties, traveling, .or just loafing.

Obviously, the use of free time is a good means of relaxation, but its benefits go beyond this. All things people do in leisure hours enable them to gratify their wishes. This can contribute to intellectual growth and promote social activities as well.

So the good use of free time will make life rich, colorful and rewarding.

Weekends to people mean that people can have two days' rest. They can go out or get together at home.

Everybody spends weekends in his own way. Some people relax themselves by listening to music, reading in libraries or doing sports outdoors. In a word, different people have different relaxations.

I often spend weekends with my family. Sometimes my parents take me to visit our relatives. Sometimes we go swimming or go dancing and sometimes I go to read some instructive books. I often enjoy myself at weekends.

  周末

  The Value of Reading Books

People often say that gold and silver are the most valuable things in the world. But I don't think so. In my opinion, to read books is more valuable than anything else.

The old saying "To open a book is always helpful" clearly tells us how good it is to read a book.

Books are our friends. They introduce us different kinds of knowledge. They lead us down the road to success.

Books are our teachers. They teach us troth, science, literature, and philosophy of life. Besides, they increase our knowledge, enlarge our experience, strengthen our character and do many other things which we can not do without them.

Books tell us what is good and what is evil. And only books can tell the good from the bad.

Therefore to read more books is the best policy for our young students.

Football is the most popular ball in the world. More and more people like watching football matches. They can't sleep or eat when their teams are playing. They shout for their players. I think many Chinese football player have done better match after match since the Professional Football league of China was set up. But we still have a long way to go to Asia and to the world. We should learn from foreign teams. Foreign players and coaches must be invited. Dalian Wanda, Shanghai Shenhua and Guangd0ng Apollo are among the best.

The day was sunny, but I was in a bad mood. At the oncoming party I Would have to do some cleaning, for I was considered unable to dance or sing. I eould not but accept the task. During the party, I tried hard to keep the room clean, and after he party I got rid of the rubbish. When seeing all those present joyful, I felt my job worthwhile.

When being told that the entire room would have been a dustbin without me, I thought of a well-known saying, "There must be a use for my talent."My friends, you may have no special talent, but as long as you do your utmost to dowell everything useful, you will find everything is beautiful at every corner of your life.

Last week I saw a young man giving up his seat to a woman with a baby in her arms on a bus. To my great surprise, the woman did not thank the young man; on the contrary, she glared at him coldly, which made him embarrassed.

This incident set me thinking. If everyone acted like that woman, who would like to help others? And what would our society be like?

If anyone gives you a hand, you should express your sincere gratitude to him or her. Only in this way will everyone be ready to help others and feel satisfied with it.

Newspapers and magazines have special interest in the private lives of famous people.

  What can you explain it?

What effect it will have on the people being exposed?

And what is your opinion of it?

  Privacy of Famous People

In recent years, many newspapers and magazines focus on the activities of film stars, pop singers and some other famous men and women. Reporters disguise their identities, infiltrate the subject’s business and family,or even bug and wiretap them——to get the news by whatever means are necessary.

It is not difficult to explain the reason for their surprising amount of interest in famous people’s lives. They are in the spotlight, renowned or notorious, they are the topic of ordinary people who like to know everything about them. To satisfy their curiosity,or “the people’s right to know”,journalists often find it their duty to report their activities.

More over, what matters to a newspaper or a magazine is the number of readers. A large readership means the rise in the circulation of their publications, hence a huge profit. Since film stars and pop singers are newsworthy figures, and their stories draws far more attention than those of other people,it is natural that the press tries to attract them to buy their magazines by featuring private lives of famous people.

How ever, those exposed people can be severely injured by such press attention. Sensational stories about their private lives cause great unhappiness to them. To escape reporters, they can’t even lead a normal life. Sometimes their lives will be in danger. For example,Princess Diana died in a car accident as she attempted to escape photographers in a chase through Paris.

Famous people are also citizens. They have the right to keep their own privacy like ordinary people——the basic right which should be respected, protected and guaranteed by our laws in whatever circumstances.

  Large Companies and Small Companies

Upon graduation from college, young men and women face the first choice in their career life:to go to a large company or a small one? Although many graduates are attracted by the prestige of large companies,I believe the small one will afford more chances of success and more opportunities to develop your ability.

There are two basic differences between the large and small enterprises.

First, working in the small company you operate primarily through personal contacts;you have more chance to develop your communication ability and the ability to handle various kinds of personalities. In contrast,in the large company there are established policies and fairly rigid procedures. Even the man at the top is only a cog in a big machine: you needn’t make any decision and can’t see the effect of your work……

Second,in a small business you are normally exposed to all kinds of experiences and expected to do a great many things without too much help or guidance. Thus, you may acquire much more skills and experience, and develop the ability to handle different, complicated things. But in the large corporation, since you are normally taught one thing and limited to one procedure, you may become the man who knows more and more about less and less.

Obviously if you want to gain more experience and ability needed in business organizations and to become an excellent manager or executive in your future career, working in a small company is your best choice.

  描述你做過(guò)的夢(mèng)-Describe a Dream You Had

On the way to a mountain in the dead of winter, I dropped behind the group I was traveling with and got lost. To make matters worse, it began to rain heavily. The wind blew hard, and the blasted forest groaned as if in pain. And so overcast was the sky that night came several hours earlier than usual. Cold and frightened, I was trembling all over. All I could do was shout for help, but no help was forthcoming. The night became darker, the wind blew harder, and the rain poured down more heavily. I ate my last piece of food, a tiny piece of cake. Totally despaired, I was waiting not for miracle but for death. Suddenly, a thunderclap woke me up. A rainstorm was indeed raging outside, but I was grateful to find that I only had a nightmare.

I had a wonderful dream not very long ago. In the dream, I found myself suddenly able to swim. I swam freely in the sea, where I saw many strange trees and plants I had never seen before. While I was swimming, some brightly colored fish followed me. When I stopped, they all flocked around me, as if anxious to know who I was. To my amazement, I found they could talk! So we struck up an interesting conversation. We became good friends and lived together. In my happiness in the fantasy land, I forgot all my troubles. In fact, I forgot that I was a human being. Unfortunately, however, this wonderful life didn't last too long, for soon the dream ended and I woke up to face the real world again.

  Make Our Cities Green

With industries and business developing quickly, the number of trees in many big cities has dramatically reduces. Efforts are being made to prevent people from cutting more trees. But a lot of trees are being destroyed by people who have never thought of the importance of green plants.

Making cities greener has many advantages. First, it can make our air cleaner. Some researchers have proved that trees can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere through absorption. Second, it can make our cities more beautiful. With trees and flowers everywhere, living conditions can be improved. Finally, it can produce timber----an effective way to solve the problems of limited supply of natural resources.

Making our cities greener requires nationwide efforts. People in every field should not only know about the importance of keeping the quality of urban environment, but also take common action to plant more trees and flowers so as to improve our living conditions.

A Touching Event

  A Touching Event

Yesterday afternoon I went to the Yuexiu Park. It happened that I saw a touching event. At that time, some people were boating on the lake. Among them was perhaps a happy family. They were taking photos when suddenly the girl fell off the boat into the water. She was struggling and her parents cried out, "Help!Help !" It was obvious that they could not swim at all. From nearby a young man immediately rushed to the lake. Without taking off his clothes, he jumped into the water and quickly swam towards the girl l who was already tired out. At last he carried her to the lake side. She was saved!

How happy the parents were! Before they thought of thanking the Young man, he had disappeared!

  展望我的未來(lái)-An Outlook on My Future

  An Outlook on My Future-展望我的未來(lái)

I earnestly hope to lead a healthy and prosperous life in the future. Judging from my aptitude inclination and personality streaks, my ideal life will be that of a scientist, researching, lecturing, and writing books. As I am from a farming family, I particularly enjoy being close to earth. If I can afford to live a pastoral life in the countryside, I will feel most blessed. As far as social life is concerned, simplicity is what I intend to pursue, so I really don't need too many friends. All these will be mere talk if I am idle now. To attain my goal, I must make a point of training my body and mind. This is a highly competitive society in which everyone is eager to come out on top. That is not only a competition of physical strength and mental power, but a marathon of patience, faith, and perseverance. Life is not all roses, but with what I am being equipped with by the top teachers in this elite school, I surely deserve a promising prospect.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

The summer vacation had come round again. I was happy that I could forget about school at least for a while. Lest I fool around all through this summer vacation, I made a plan as to how to spend it. First, I thought I should go over all those things my teachers taught in the previous term so that I could have a better understanding of them. Then I thought I should take up some forms of exercise, such as walking, running and rowing, to keep me physically strong. It stood to reason that with such a good plan I should make the best of my vacation time. I did, because I lived up to what I had planned.

Summer can be very hot in southern Taiwan where the temperature usually goes up to 32"C or more. Because of the heat it is a trying experience to go to school or do anything else in a place that is not air-conditioned. Also because of this I stay at home most of the time during the summer vacation and only occasionally go to the beach to plunge myself into the cool water as a way to keep my body less sticky. Actually I like swimming and think nothing is more refreshing than a swim. In the summer vacation that has just ended I went swimming many times with my classmates and we all had a good time. This summer vacation, however, was not spent entirely in seeking fun. As a second-year senior student I had to prepare myself for the college entrance examinations that were only a year away. In other words, I must find time to study, too. So I divided my time between work and play during the summer vacation and derived much benefit from this arrangement.

I spent this summer vacation in quite a different way. I used to run about every day in previous summer vacations, but this summer vacation I simply could not afford to do so. I would soon be in the last year of my high-school education and would after graduation be up against the college entrance examinations. Though those examinations were still a year away, I had to start early to make myself well prepared by reviewing all those things I had learned at school and this summer vacation was the ideal time for me to do this. At first I was rather dismayed at the thought of this, but later I thought it was better this way because by working hard this summer I could count on endless happy summers to come. With this in mind I then set to work like anything and only occasionally went out for a change or did some physical. I was not at all bored by this kind of life, for I was sustained by a hope

  一次野生訓(xùn)練-A Wilderness Survival Program

  Saturday May 4, 2002 Cloudy

Li Ming and I took part in a wilderness survival program yesterday, which has become an unforgettable experience.

Yesterday morning we wore strong and comfortable shoes, carried backpacks with the necessities in them and went to the mountain. We climbed a hill. On the top we saw a direction mark, which told us where to go. Down the hill, we came to a river. There were no boats but we had to cross it. Luckily, both of us had learned how to swim. But we shouldn't make our things in the backpacks wet. Seeing a piece of board, I got an idea. We put our backpacks on the board and swam in the water pushing the board. When getting to the other bank, with the compass we found north in which direction we walked half an hour. Finally, we arrived at the campsite. We set up a tent and made a bonfire.

The two of us spent the night in the forest.

We learned to use knowledge gained in classroom training to solve problems. It was quite an experience for both of us, which I'll never forget for the rest of my life.

Li Ming and I took part in a wilderness survival program yesterday, and it has been one of the most unforgettable experiences since high school.

It was clear in the morning. We went to the mountain happily, wearing strong and comfortable shoes, carrying the necessities in the backpacks. We climbed a hill and on the top we saw there was a direction mark at the foot of the hill. Down the hill, following the direction, we came to a river. There were no boats. Luckily, we had learned how to swim in the training class. But we should protect our things in the backpacks from being wet.Fortunately, we found a piece of board. We put our backpacks on the board and swam pushing the board. When getting to the other bank, we took out the compass from the backpack and knew the direction. We walked to the north for about half an hour. At last, we arrived at the campsite, where we set up the tent and made a bonfire.

The two of us spent the night in the forest.

We learned to use knowledge gained in classroom training to solve problems. It was quite an experience for both of us, which I'll never forget for the rest of my life.

A Letter to Editor

  Dear editor,

I'd like to tell you something about the changes of my hometown. My hometown used to be a beautiful place. Thick trees and green grass could be seen everywhere. However, in order to build houses and grow more crops, people cut down more and more trees. As time went on, the whole

forest was almost destroyed. Gradually, the green hills have changed into a wasteland. As a result, sandstorms struck us now and then, from which we suffered a lot. So, I do hope that all the people should realize the terrible result of not caring about our environment. What's more, we should take good care of the forests and plant more trees instead of cutting them down so as to improve our living conditions.

  Yours,

  Li Hua

  Dear editor,

I wrote to tell you about my worry. In the past my hometown was a beautiful place with green hills around our village. But in recent years, more and more trees have been cut down because people wanted to build more houses and grow more crops. As time went on, the green hills have turned into a wasteland. It is hard to grow things on it. Besides, sandstorms struck us now and then, which brought us a lot of hardships. So, I do hope that all the people should be aware of the importance of protecting the environment. Thinking of the terrible result, we shouldn't cut more trees without planting them any more. Without the forest we wouldn't live a better life.

  可愛(ài)的小貓-A Lovely Cat

  A Lovely Cat

Several days ago, Mother brought home a little cat. I gave her a nice name "Mimi".

She is black all over except her: four feet and a small nose. There is also a white bib on her chest. Can you imagine what she looks like?

Every morning she gets up the earliest. Then she always climbs up my bed and wakes me up. When we sit at table having our meal, she often runs under the table and even climbs onto our knees, it seems as if she was saying, "Let me join you. I want something to eat."

“Mimi" likes to lie onthe floor in the sunshine. She feels;comfortable that way. She looks more lovely when doing that.

I like "Mimi" very much because the cat brings us a joy of the family.

My first Job

My first job was at a cramming school. It was three years ago when I just graduated from junior high school and finished the entrance examination. since I had nothing to do that summer, I decided to find a job, tasting the joy of independence.

I was responsible for answering the telephone and taking the message. I worked eight hours a day, six days a week. The work was not difficult nor heavy to me and I guess I did well. The most delighted thing was perhaps that I could spend the money I earned all by myself.

I began school at seven in accordance with the law in a remote village. Short of funds, the school had only a few classrooms, all poorly constructed. Needless to say, our teachers were few, too. As a pupil I preferred the playground to the classroom and often liked to play tricks on girls, as by hiding insects in their desk drawers. On one occasion, I even grimaced behind the back of our teacher, causing the whole class to break into laughter; however, instead of becoming angry, he merely asked why we were laughing and wondered whether there was anything wrong with him. On another occasion, I punctured the tires of a car parked inside the school by using something sharppointed, leaving the principal frightened and bewildered after he had noticed that. Such were the happy moments in my life at that school. The happiest moment, to me and to all of my schoolmates, however, was the one when the school was letting out at the last bell of the day and we were rushing home as if we would never be back. Once, on our way home, a bunch of naughty students found a crickets' hole and exerted themselves to inject water into it with loud cheers. The girls were no less frantic than the boys when they were having a good time at such games as jump-rope, hopscotch and battledore and shuttlecock.

My grade school days are the most wonderful time I have ever had. In those days I always wanted as eagerly to learn as a dog prowls about in search of food. The teachers taught me not only the three R’s but also the way to observe the world surrounding us. They laid more stress on observation than on memorization. Thus we had much time to talk over and trade our learning experiences. What excited me most during my grade school days, however, was to be out collecting specimens of the butterfly. Once, on a sunny day and after walking a good while, we reached a one began to catch the butterflies with great excitement while the teacher told us about the living habit of them. Though we spent more time in playing than in catching butterflies, we still had a rich collection when we went home, and a rich knowledge of wildlife into the bargain. After I attended junior high school I did not have much of an opportunity to learn the way I did in grade school, but did not regret because we are bound to go through various stages of life. Anyway, my grade school education was the cornerstone of my later learning career and for that single reason, if not for any other, I am grateful to it.

Whenever I remember my grade school days, I tend to be wistful over. Though no more are those days, I will never forget now wonderful they were. I was carefree in my school days and all the year round I lived happily. I was not a hardworking pupil. Every day I directed my attention not to study but to how to out to how to cut classes and class leader as I was. I did not act like one; instead, I even encouraged others to cut classes, too. of course. I was caught out and severely punished. Often in preparing for a test we pupils would work together to devise ways of cheating in the test room. Though I was poor at cheating in any test. I never gave up but would again and again, hoping this way I would get high marks. With the passage of time I have gradually cast off those bad habits I once had always feel embarrassed each time I think of my foolish behavior in 1the past, I owe what I am to all my teachers. Conscientious instruction. Had it not been for them, I would not be a useful member of society as I am today, My grade school days not only added to my experience as a boy but give me now something lasting to remember by. How I wish the past days could come back, for in retrospect they were so wonderful.

Childhood is often regarded as a memorable and beautiful period of one’s life and I passed it happily as a grade-school student. My grade school days were really carefree ones. I got along well with my classmates and On holidays we strolled along the street visited the park and shared one another s candies The teacher of our class was a patient woman who took pains to teach us how to behave and often accompanied us to play games after class—games which were enlivened by songs prattle and laughters. My grade school days were surely the happiest time in my life. Though in retrospect what I did long ago is some-what childish it is nevertheless unforgettable.

Most people miss their grade school days and think they are the happiest time of their life, but whenever I recall them I cannot help feeling a little sad. In my young days I disliked any dismal atmosphere and could not bear the feeling of loneliness, yet the fact was that I often lived in a dismal home and frequently had the bitter taste of lonesomeness. I was not cheerful even in the company of my classmates at the grade school I attended. When I was alone at home the dismal atmosphere often filled me with fear even though thought here went to work in the morning but always came later than I did. For a young person like me this was too bad. Not until I was about sixteen years old had I outgrown this feeling of fear. Then there was that nagging feeling of loneliness either at home of at school. My father changed his job several times and with each change of his job we had to move and I had to attend a different grade school. Before I finished my elementary education I had attended three grade schools and thus it was difficult for me to cultivate enduring friendships. The feeling of being friendless was a constant source of pain to me. Those unhappy grade school days have of course long been over. I still have an abhorrence for any dismal atmosphere and lonesomeness, but hardened by experience I now find them less disturbing than they were.

I like to study in the library-我喜歡在圖書館讀書

Every Sunday morning, I get up at five in order to find a seat in the library. I like the quiet atmosphere in the library, which makes me deeply absorbed in my study. Besides, there are reference books in the library which provide ready guidance to help me solve my problems. At home people come and go--some talking, others working. Inevitably, there are often noises around the house which make me nervous and unable to concentrate on my study. For the reasons mentioned above, I like to study in the library.

It seems that most students like to study in the library, especially when there are examinations. I also like to study in the library. Because of the quiet atmosphere, I can better concentrate on my study. The diligence of other people in the library also inspires me to work even harder. I usually get more by studying in the library. The library is a good place to study only if we observe its rules, such as not talking loudly. Otherwise the value of the library will be greatly reduced.

Generally speaking, a library is a very quiet place. In a library, I can better concentrate and study more effectively. Besides, there are all kinds of books, magazines and newspapers in a library which provide you with a great deal of useful knowledge. The library is a place where your desire for knowledge can be satisfied. Nor can one do research without the help of a library. When I was in college, every semester I Had to write several papers. It was the indispensable library that enabled me to do the necessary research and finish my papers in time. It is difficult to imagine what life would be like without library. We should try to keep our library such a good place that it is by obeying the library rules. We should try to make our library not only a source of knowledge but also a source of inspiration.

The Young at Heart

I have 83-an year-old grandmother who is among the young at heart. She is as happy and gay as her youngest great-grandchildren. Her health is still very good. Carrying her baskets of food, she often walks to distant temples to pray. Although she cannot read and write, her mind is as quick and shard as a youngster. Often I have noticed that my grandmother sees a joke attitude very smallest things around her. Her attitude toward death is both reassuring and thoughtful. She is full of animation and excitement when she talks, especially about the past. Her life is one of simplicity, independence, generosity, and trust because she is young at heart.

  我們?yōu)楹我獙W(xué)英文-Why We Learn English

Learning English is much more than a fad; it is really a must! Let's take a look around us: the latest information around the world is written in or translated into English. To keep up with the ever-changing world, we must be equipped with a good command of English. From a more practical point of view, armed English is one of the most important required subjects for the university and high school entrance exam. To do well on the exam, we must, again, study hard to score high in the subject.

Frankly, my English is not good. But I have been doing my best to improve my English in order to pass the college entrance examination .In my case, I force myself to memorize at least a few new words every day because a large vocabulary is essential in learning English well. Second, I review some grammar rules every week, which helps me make fewer mistakes in writing English. Third, I read short articles and then write an English composition every other day. I hope to get high marks in both reading and writing. Now my English is improving day by day, and I hope I can do well in the English test for the coming college examination.

Directions : In this part, you are to write an essay on "Opportunity and Success ". You should write about 200 words within 40 minutes on ANSWER SHEET2. Your essay should be based on the following outline:

  1. Contingency (偶然性) of opportunity

  2. Relationship Between opportunity and success

  3. My view on opportunity

Opportunities don't come often. They come every once in a while. Very often, they come quietly and go by without being noticed. Therefore, it is advisable that you should value and treat them with care.

When an opportunity presents itself, it brings a promise but never realizes it on its own. If you want to achieve something or intend to fulfill one of your ambitions you must work hard, make efforts and get prepared. Otherwise, you will take no advantage of opportunities when they come to visit you. It is clear that in order to be highly qualified for out future jobs, we should make every possible preparation.

The difference between a man who succeeds and one who does not lies only in the way each treats opportunities. The successful person always makes adequate preparations to meet opportunities as they duly arrive. The unsuccessful person, on the other hand, works little and just waits to see them pass by. Obviously, the two different attitudes towards opportunities may lead to quite different consequences.

In my opinion, there are plenty of opportunities for everyone in our society, in our society, but only those who are prepared adequately and qualified highly can make use of them to achieve their purpose. (208 words

  Lost and Found

On the evening of January 4th, 2005, I found an electronic dictionary in the English reading-room on the 3rd floor of the new library in the east district of our university.

The electronic dictionary can be generally described as follows. It is brand new and metallic gray in color. What's more, the portable electronic dictionary is as big as a piece of cake and as thin as a regular magazine.

The owner of the electronic dictionary may contact me now. My room phone number and mobile phone number are (010) 62043340 and 13801106414 respectively. Please make appointment in advance.

  Sincerely Yours

The Most Important Thing in the World

Directions:A)Title:The Most Important Thing in the World

C)Time limit:30minutes D)Word limit:150~200words

E)Your composition must be written clearly on the Composition Sheet.

The Most Important Thing in the World

In my opinion, the most important thing in the world is TIME.However long one may live, his life consists of a certain number of years, and a year has only12months,a month30days and one day24hours.Once you waste one hour, you can not get it back no matter how much you would pay for it.

Even though you are the richest person in the world, you can not afford to waste your time, because it means that you are wasting your life.Even though you are the most powerful person in the world, one hour has60minutes for you just as for everyone else who struggles at the bottom of the society.

Some people think that the most important thing in the world is money. In their opinion,if you have enough money, you will have everything you want.I would like to ask them a simple question:Can you buy time?

The only thing with which we can win more time is efficiency. If you work with high efficiency, you can do more in a certain period of time than other people.

  One possible version:

  Dear Editor,

Nowadays mobile phones are becoming more and more popular among the middle school students. In my opinion, we can bring mobile phones to school.

As we know, the 21st century is a modern age and full of information. A mobile phone is one of the quickest tools for us to exchange information. The mobile phone is a fashionable and useful invention, so we ought to make the best use of it. Suppose there’s a sudden accident, it is more convenient for us to dial for help immediately. There’re also some games in the mobile phone. We can relax ourselves by playing them when we’re tired of our studies. In my opinion, it’s not wrong to follow the fashion, but the most important thing is how to use the mobile phone in a right way.

  Yours truly,

  Wang Lin

Directions: Wealth brings happiness. In this part, you are to write within 40

minutes a composition of about 200 words about the "The Relationship between Wealth and

Happiness". You can agree or disagree, completely or partially to the above statement. But

whatever position you take, you should give sound supporting reasons. At the end of your

composition you are required to draw your own conclusion.

Wealth has always been what some people long for. It is true that most of them try to acquire wealth by means of honest labour. Their efforts contribute to the welfare of the society and at the same time to the accumulation of their wealth, and hence to their happiness.

There is no doubt that wealth brings happiness, especially in the modern society. Various kinds of up-to-date household appliances, latest fashions and recreations make their appearance with each passing day. All this makes our life more comfortable and colourful. Therefore, without money we cannot turn admiration into reality.

But there are exceptions when wealth does not go hand in hand with happiness. Wealth may tempt weak-willed persons to be addicted to harmful habits, such as drug-taking and gambling, and result in their own ruin. Besides, a person may lose his even some government officials who take advantage of their positions to take bribes from the people turning to them for help. All these will bring about the negative effect of wealth if we don't take a proper attitude to it.

In my opinion, on no account can we identify wealth with happiness. I also believe that one should never reckon only on wealth to achieve happiness .

What Is Success?

Directions: In this part, you are to write an essay of about 200 words within 40 minutes. Your composition must be based on the information given in the outline below.

Outline:1. Different opinions on success2. Ways to achieve success3. My view on success

What Is Success?

What is success? Different people hold views on This question. Some think that one is successful if he can make a great deal of money. Others argue that success means holding an important government post. Still others believe that whoever has got high academic title is successful. It is clear that there are quite different opinions on success.

In order to become successful, you should first of all be both perseverant and hardworking. As you know, whatever you do, there are always two possible results: success and failure. When you fail, you should never lose heart. On the contrary, you must build up your confidence and work even harder. You should always keep in mind that perseverance is the mother of success and industry is the key to it. In addition, you should pay great attention to your work method. It is necessary for you to sum up your experience constantly and improve the efficiency of your work. Finally, it is important for you to get along well with your co-workers, care for each other and help each other. If you follow these principles, you will certainly achieve remarkable success in the future.

In my opinion, success means achieving brilliant results in one's work, that is, making outstanding contributions to the development of the country and bringing happiness to the people. So my conclusion is that even if one has made great progress in what he does, I don't think there's any reason for him to be conceited.
