In their flattering invitation letter, they asked me to bring along a sense of humor, speak about my commitment to public service and family, talk about resiliency, compassion, and leadership in a changing world. Petty tall order. I probably already flunked the first part of the test.
But with the rest let me say upfront, and I mean this sincerely, there’s nothing particularly unique about me. With regard to resilience and compassion, there are countless thousands of people, maybe some in the audience, who’ve suffered through personal losses similar to mine or much worse with much less support to help them get through it and much less reason to want to get through it.
It’s not that all that difficult, folks, to be compassionate when you’ve been the beneficiary of compassion in your lowest moments not only from your family, but from your friends and total strangers. Because when you know how much it meant to you, you know how much it mattered. It’s not hard to be compassionate.

首先，你應(yīng)確信你已在發(fā)音技巧和語(yǔ)音方面下了很多功夫。否則，你將會(huì)鬧出很多笑話。例如“我可以借一下你的自行車嗎？”而你說(shuō)成“我可以借一下你的后背嗎？”“請(qǐng)遞給我那個(gè)箱子”而由于你的錯(cuò)誤發(fā)音，竟說(shuō)成“請(qǐng)給我一個(gè)吻吧。”很顯然，在這兩個(gè)句子中你讀錯(cuò)了“自行車”和“盒子”這兩個(gè)詞，而對(duì)方也就自然誤解了你的意思。另外，語(yǔ)調(diào)的'不同也可表達(dá)著不同的感情，舉個(gè)例子：倫敦橋塌了！倫敦橋塌了！我的夫人�。曇舾甙海硎靖吲d）倫敦橋塌了！倫敦橋塌了！我的夫人�。曇舻统粒硎颈瘋�

其次，大家都知道：熟能生巧。當(dāng)你在說(shuō)英語(yǔ)時(shí)不要怕犯錯(cuò)誤。一方面，沒(méi)有人會(huì)不犯錯(cuò)誤的。另一方面你可以從錯(cuò)誤中總結(jié)教訓(xùn)，所以千萬(wàn)不要害羞，臉皮厚一點(diǎn)地大聲說(shuō)出來(lái)！
最后，為了能夠達(dá)到成功的頂峰，我們必須要有耐心。無(wú)論怎么說(shuō)，學(xué)英語(yǔ)總是要花費(fèi)時(shí)間的，所以你必須要有足夠的勇氣和一顆“永不言敗”的心。要牢牢地記住這句名言“羅馬不是一天造成的！”

On the other hand, my other son, Hunter, who heads the World Food Program USA, graduated from Yale Law School.Now, he thought it’s a great idea. But then again, law graduates always think all of their ideas are great ideas.
By the way, I’ve had a lot of law graduates from Yale work for me. That's not too far from the truth. But anyway, look, the truth of the matter is that I have a lot of staff that are Yale graduates, several are with me today. They thought it was a great idea that I speak here.
As a matter of fact, my former national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, who is teaching here at Yale Law School, trained in international relations at Yale College, edited the Yale Daily News, and graduated from Harvard -- excuse me, Freudian slip -- Yale Law School. You’re lucky to have him. He’s a brilliant and decent and honorable man. And I miss him. And we miss him as my national security advisor.
But he’s not the only one. My deputy national security advisor, Jeff Prescott, started and ran the China Law Center at Yale Law School. My Middle East policy advisor and foreign policy speechwriter, Dan Benaim, who is with me, took Daily Themes -— got a B. Now you know why I go off script so much.
