　　人生頌

　　A Psalm of Life

　　by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

　　I

　　Tell me not, in mournful numbers,  別用悲傷詩句對(duì)我吟唱；

　　Life is but an empty dream!   人生不過是場(chǎng)空虛的夢(mèng)！

　　For the soul is dead that slumbers,  因?yàn)殪`魂沉睡等于死亡，

　　And things are not what they seem.  事物本質(zhì)與其表象不同。

　　II

　　Life is real—life is earnest—    人生皆真實(shí)人生非虛無！

　　And the grave is not its goal:    最終的歸宿決不是墳地

　　Dust thou art, to dust returnest,   “你本是塵土必歸塵土，”

　　Was not spoken of the soul.   這話所說的并不是靈魂。

　　Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,   我們命定的道路和終點(diǎn)，

　　Is our destined end or way;    既不是享樂也不是受苦；

　　But to act, that each to-morrow   而是行動(dòng)，讓每個(gè)明天

　　Find us farther than to-day.   都覺超越今天在邁新步。

　　Art is long, and time is fleeting,   藝海無涯時(shí)光卻眨眼逝，

　　And our hearts, though stout and brave, 任我們的心勇敢又堅(jiān)強(qiáng)，

　　Still, like muffled drums, are beating  卻仍像蒙住的鼓擊。

　　Funeral marches to the grave.   哀樂送我們步步向墳場(chǎng)。

　　In the world’s broad field of battle,  在世界角逐的廣闊戰(zhàn)場(chǎng)，

　　In the bivouac of Life,     在人生征途的露宿營地，

　　Be not like dumb, driven cattle!   別像被驅(qū)趕的啞口牛羊！

　　Be a hero in the strife!     要做個(gè)英雄去奮斗搏擊！

　　Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!  別指望未來,不管多可愛！

　　Let the dead Past bury its dead!   讓死的過去把死的埋葬！

　　Act—act in the glorious Present!   快行動(dòng)在活生生的現(xiàn)在！

　　Heart within, and God o’er head!   胸懷一顆心頭頂有上蒼！

　　Lives of great men all remind us   偉人的生平向我們昭示；

　　We can make our lives sublime,   我們能使一生變得輝煌，

　　And, departing, leave behind us   而我們一朝告別，都是

　　Footsteps on the sands of time.    將腳印留在時(shí)間沙灘上；

　　VIII

　　Footsteps, that, perhaps another,   腳�。∫苍S有別的弟兄，

　　Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,   航行在人生嚴(yán)峻的海上，

　　A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,   當(dāng)沉船遇難而慘遭不幸，

　　Seeing, shall take heart again.   看到這腳印信心又增長。

　　Let us then be up and doing,    就讓我們奮發(fā)精神抖擻，

　　With a heart for any fate;     敞開胸懷迎接任何命運(yùn)；

　　Still achieving, still pursuing,    不斷地獲得不斷地追求，

　　Learn to labor and to wait.     學(xué)會(huì)苦干還要待機(jī)而進(jìn)。
