現(xiàn)在完成時和一般過去時的動作都發(fā)生在過去,但現(xiàn)在完成時表示過去發(fā)生的某一動作對現(xiàn)在造成的影響或結(jié)果,強調(diào)的是現(xiàn)在的情況,所以它不能和表示過去的時間狀語連用,如:yesterday, last night, three weeks ago, in 1995等.而一般過去時只表示過去的動作或狀態(tài),和現(xiàn)在不發(fā)生關(guān)系,它可以和表示過去的時間狀語連用.例如:
I have cleaned the house.(我清掃了房間)(用的是現(xiàn)在完成時,它表明了房間現(xiàn)在是干凈的)
I cleaned the house an hour ago.(我一小時前打掃了房間)(用的是一般過去時,它強調(diào)的是動作“打掃”及其發(fā)生的時間)
日常生活中的對話表達如下意義通常用現(xiàn)在完成時:在沒有明確的過去時間狀語或上下文暗示過去時間的前提下,陳述完成了(發(fā)生了)某事或沒有完成(發(fā)生)某事,或詢問完成了(發(fā)生了)某事嗎等.例如:
a.-Have you had your lunch?你吃過午飯了嗎?-Yes,I have.吃過了.
一Where did you have it?在哪兒吃的?-I had it at home.在家里吃的.
b.一Has the train arrived yet?火車已到了嗎?一Yes,it has.已經(jīng)到了.
-When did it arrive?什么時候到的?
-It arrived ten minutes ago.十分鐘前到的
對話a的第一個問句是詢問對方吃過午飯沒有,沒有明確的過去時間狀語,應(yīng)用現(xiàn)在完成時;由于第二個問句暗含在過去某時某地吃的午飯,應(yīng)用一般過去時.同樣的道理,對話b中第一個問句沒有明確的過去時間狀語,用現(xiàn)在完成時,第二個問句的回答是過去時間,故用一般過去時.

主句與賓語從句之間的時態(tài)搭配有如下要求:
①主句謂語是現(xiàn)在或?qū)頃r,賓語從句是它所需要的任何時態(tài)(如題1).
再如:

Jim was late for school yesterday.
Jim has been away for two weeks.
②主句謂語若是一般過去時,賓語從句要使用過去的某一時態(tài)(如題2),
再如:
He said
he had a good journey home.

③主句是一般過去時,賓語從句中若有具體的過去時間狀語,則從句仍用一般過去時,如:

A long time ago there lived a very rich and powerful king. All the people in his kingdom were afraid of him. But was he happy? No, he was always ill and unhappy. His money and power could not help him. The doctor in his kingdom could not cure (治愈)him,either. He was so angry with them that he cut off their heads.
One day two famous doctors from another kingdom came to his palace.
